  • Where

    Mount Lebanon & Beirut, Chiyah
  • Who

The Chiyah community, especially the youth
  • Why

Research shows that there are immense benefits from music education, especially in terms of academic achievement. Yet over the past few decades, budget pressures and an increasing focus on reading and math have crowded the arts out of most Lebanese schools. Consequently, high school graduates are losing the benefits of improved creativity and innovation. Chiyah counts 80,000 residents with an extremely high percentage of youth who lack access to recreational activities including musical education.
  • How

Live Lebanon aims at making music education accessible to all by equipping a music hall in Chiyah with instruments that up to 60 people can make use of simultaneously. These include pianos, classic and electric guitars, violins, flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets and so on. The objective is to give the Chiyah youth the opportunity to attend music classes to stimulate artistic activity in the region. These activities would replace the lack of communication between children from different cultural backgrounds by constructive behavior and build a supportive environment in view of a prosperous community life.
