Mask Your Hero

Project Description

  • Budget: 70K
  • Beneficiaries: 2000
  • PPEs: 2000
  • Status: ongoing
  • Category: Civil Defense | PPE | COVID19

As of May 11, 2020, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lebanon exceeded 845 with an unfortunate 26 losses in lives. While citizens are adapting to restrictions imposed by the government, in an effort to curtail the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the emergency health workers are fully engaged in responding to the unfolding health crisis.

Among those health workers, the Civil Defense volunteers are transporting suspected cases of COVID-19 to hospitals, but they are suffering from a shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE). Only one in four paramedics in Lebanon is using PPE on a mission, which puts their lives and the lives of others at risk.

Afraid of infecting their families, many are distancing and isolating themselves from family members.

The PPE are crucial for the safety of the Paramedics and the people they are transporting.

The PPE kit costs 35$ and includes:

  • Tyvek Coverall suit with fit hood, elastic on wrists, ankles and hood
  • Boot cover
  • N95 and surgical face mask
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Fully enclosed antifog goggles
  • Protective glasses

UNDP’s global response to the pandemic is built on three pillars: prepare, respond and recover. In this regard, UNDP Lebanon is launching #MaskYourHero, a crowdfunding campaign to secure the much-needed PPE to the Civil Defense volunteers. The campaign is part of a regional initiative by UNDP “Solidarity against COVID-19: Together we are one!”, which includes various campaigns across other Arab States.

All proceeds of the campaign go directly into the procurement of coverall suits, masks, gloves and the necessary protective equipment, reaffirming UNDP’s commitment to leave no one behind. The campaign’s goal is to raise 70,000 USD to procure 2000 PPE.

Your contribution can make a big difference. Support our Heroes.
